Standing in Support of our LGBTQIA+ Community

Sent Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018

To the Campus Community:

As we continue to celebrate LGBTQIA+ History Month, recent media reports suggesting that transgender citizens could lose their civil rights protections and their ability to identify and be recognized as their true selves represent a cause for concern.

Rutgers University–Camden values and respects the humanity of every individual from every background. We embrace the diversity that defines New Jersey and so profoundly enriches our university. We are a community that supports each other and that strives to strengthen the connections that unify us every day.

I stand in solidarity with our LGBTQIA+ students, faculty, staff, and alumni, and with every member of our Rutgers community. The resources of our Student Health Services office and our Dean of Students office are ready to assist students experiencing problems or anxiousness related to this policy. Our Office of Diversity and Inclusion remains the primary point of contact for LGBTQIA+ students and others wishing to signal their support for all of our Scarlet Raptors.

Rutgers University–Camden is a committed and diverse campus, where all of us – students, faculty, staff, and alumni – recognize that we belong. There cannot be any equivocation on this subject.
