By Tom McLaughlin

With Veterans Day falling on a Saturday this year, the Office of Veterans Affairs at Rutgers–Camden will host the annual Veterans Day luncheon at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13.

The luncheon, a special thanks to Rutgers–Camden students and alumni who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, will be held in the Multi-Purpose Room on the main level of the Campus Center.

Among the highlights of the event, Korean War veterans will be honored and presented with certificates of appreciation by Fred Davis, director of the Office of Veterans Affairs at Rutgers–Camden.

The keynote speaker will be U.S. Air Force Brigadier General Troy Dunn, who was recently promoted to this post at the Pentagon. Dunn previously served as the installation commander for the 10th Air Base Wing at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. In that capacity, he commanded a team of more than 3,000 military, civilian, and contractor personnel who conduct base-level activities for the entire installation.

Several honors and commendations will also be awarded during the luncheon.

Traci Huggins, an undergraduate social work student, will be honored as Female Veteran of the Year. Huggins is a U.S. Army combat veteran who served two tours of duty in Afghanistan. The Pennsauken resident formerly served as secretary of the student veterans group at Rutgers–Camden.

Joe Demers, an undergraduate biology student, will receive Male Veteran of the Year honors. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, the Camden resident currently serves as president of the student veterans group at Rutgers–Camden.
