Madrigal Ensemble to Host Concert Featuring Significant 17th-Century Composers

Madrigals Cast Picture Spring 2013 3-feature

The Rutgers University–Camden Madrigal Ensemble will present a free concert featuring the works of Claudio Monteverdi and other significant 17th-century composers, under the direction of world-renowned soprano Julianne Baird, a distinguished professor of music at Rutgers–Camden.

The concert, which is free and open to the general public, will be held at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, in the Mallery Room on the Rutgers–Camden campus.

The madrigals will be joined by a small orchestra specializing in the 17th-century, Italian Baroque period, replete with harpist Christa Patton and baroque violinists Rebecca Harris and Mandy Wolman. The violinists will perform a Venetian version of “Pachelbel’s Canon,” and soprano Meg Folkemer and Elise Bjordammen will perform a set of vocal ciacconas. The group will also present four of Monteverdi’s “Scherzi Musicali.”
