Black History Month Celebrated with Series of Events in February

A series of activities will celebrate cultural diversity at Rutgers University–Camden throughout Black History Month in February.

The events, which are free of charge and open to the public, will be held at various locations in the Campus Center, located on Third Street, between Cooper Street and Benjamin Franklin Bridge on the Rutgers–Camden campus.

Thursday, Feb. 2

Slam poet Gabriel Ramirez will share his voice, strength, and power in a presentation at 8 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room, located on the lower level of the Campus Center.

Wednesday, Feb. 8

The Office of Student Involvement will present “Bring it to the Table,” an open roundtable discussion about what is going on in the world today, at 12:15 p.m. in the Viewing Room, located on the lower level of the Campus Center.

Monday, Feb. 13

National Poetry Slam Champion Porsha O will perform at 8 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room, located on the main level of the Campus Center.

Tuesday, Feb. 14

The Office of Student Involvement will host a screening of “Southside with You” at 8 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room, located on the main level of the Campus Center.

Wednesday, Feb. 15

Student-activist Markenzie Johnson will host a panel discussion of the history of black women and social movements at 4:30 p.m. in the South BC Conference Room, located on the lower level of the Campus Center.

Thursday, Feb. 16

The Political Science Society will host an in-depth conversation on the status of “Black America” at 12:20 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room, located on the main level of the Campus Center.

Tuesday, Feb. 21

The sisters of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. at Rutgers–Camden will present a showcase of black art at 8 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room, located on the main level of the Campus Center.

Wednesday, Feb. 22

The Office of Student Involvement will present another edition of “Bring it to the Table,” an open roundtable discussion about what is going on in the world today, at 12:15 p.m. in the South A Conference Room, located on the lower level of the Campus Center.

Wednesday, Feb. 22

The Office of Student Involvement will host a screening of the film “Loving” at 8 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room, located on the main level of the Campus Center.

Friday, Feb. 24

The Art Students League and the Campus Center will host a social justice-inspired art show at 4 p.m. on the lower level of the Campus Center.
